Koi ponds
Koi ponds are different from water gardens because the
fish limit the kind of plant life you can have in your pond. Koi eat
some plants. Goldfish are different from koi, though. They are smaller
and don’t eat plants – you can have all the goldfish you
want in a water garden.
Koi ponds should be constructed at least 3 feet deep, usually more.
Koi will grow to be quite large, despite the size of their surroundings.
Even though koi look somewhat like goldfish, they grow to be significantly
larger. Because of this, it is important that your koi pond is constructed
to be large enough to be able to hold all of the koi without it being
crowded in there.
You cannot have successful koi ponds without having the right size filters.
Just as fish in an aquarium need filters to clean the water, the koi
in a koi pond need the filters even more so. Without filters, there
is a strong chance that the koi will not survive in the pond.
