Pond Supplies FAQs

Will it cost me a fortune to install a pond?
Many people are surprised to find out that the cost of ponds is not as significant as they would have thought. One of the best things that a person who wants to install a pond can do is make sure that he buys the full pond kit all at once. If he does this, this will allow him to pay lower costs than he would if he bought all of the items separately. The fact is that the initial costs for a decent pond are usually less than $100.

Are there other costs after the “initial costs?”
Just like with anything else you might buy, there are probably going to be maintenance costs. But a lot of these costs depend in large part on what it is that you do to perform your own maintenance. For example, it could take a while before you need to purchase a new pump or similar item if you do the little things along the way like cleaning out debris and making sure that the pump is working without interruption.

Do I need a filter?
It depends on how you define the word “need.” If you want to be able to have a pond that stays clean and allows for the growth of vegetation and is a suitable place for fish to swim and live, then you are going to want a filter. But if you simply want to have a pond and do not care much about the clarity of the water or the ability of fish or vegetation to survive, then you do not “need” a filter. Otherwise, you definitely would want to have.
